Linear A Lexicon

A 3D dictionary of Linear A. Read the inscriptions as carved objects, and each word with its proposed reading, compared forms and confidence.

About the lexicon

Linear A was the syllabary of Minoan Crete, recorded from about 1800 to 1450 BC. We read it as Minoan, an archaic Semitic language. This lexicon gathers every word we can read a value for, the names of its people, places and gods, and the texts they come from.

Each reading is a proposal, with the forms it is compared to and a tier for how far it holds. The inscriptions are carved again in 3D, so a word can be followed from the page to the clay or stone that carries it, and back.
